Testimonials -Jack Brossman- Do you have a testimonial you would like to add to our list? |
Do you have a warranty on your product? Yes. Click here to view our Product Warranty How much do structural insulated panels weigh? Please check the weight chart. What types of siding can you use with panels? Wide range of sidings have been used on panels. Some siding manufacturers may have fastener spacing recommendations for attachment to 7/16" OSB. Please check with the manufacturer of the siding you intend to use. Should you use a vapor barrier? Vapor barriers are used as a protection layer for condensation that can occur between the exterior-side OSB and the siding. A vapor barrier is an inexpensive way to protect the OSB. Why should I choose IB Panels ® over stick-built framed methods? Save On-Site Construction Time & Money Quiet & Comfortable Excellent Quality Energy Efficient What are IB Panels ®? Polystyrene foam core sheets laminated (glued) to 7/16" OSB, with our patented tongue and groove connecting panel system. IB Panels ® proudly uses nothing but the highest quality materials in all panel products. What does it cost in comparison to standard frame construction? Can be equal to more expensive at outset, depending on the customers' needs & house plans, but with our pre-cut systems, there is a tremendous saving on labor costs, plus on heating/cooling costs. What is R-Value? The resistance of temperature flow between objects. The higher the R-value, the more resistance. What is IB Panels' ® R-Value rating? 6" panels at 25 degrees is 25.03 8" panels at 25 degrees is 33.18 10" panels at 25 degrees is 41.88 12" panels at 25 degrees is 50.04 If the inside of the walls are solid with foam, how do I run my electrical wiring? IB Panels ® run wire chases, or "tunnels", vertically and horizontally through each panel to accommodate all your electrical needs. Do IB Panels ® meet building codes? Yes. IB Panels ® has an NTA Listing Report that help to satisfy building code requirements. The customer should check with their local building department to see if additional information is required. How strong are these panels? The panels that IB Panels ® manufacture have been put through extensive testing, and are found to meet, or exceed, standard framing construction in strength. What about the fire factor verses these panels? IB Panels ® are a wood product, which still need fire retardant (dry-wall). The wall is solid, with no oxygen, so the foam will not feed the fire. If these panels are truly the best way to build homes, why isn't everyone building with them? Most people have yet to hear about this method of construction, including the builder and/or customer. With increased exposure, IB Panels ® are being used more every year. Structurally speaking, can panels replace stick-frame construction? Yes! Tests performed show panels can, and do, outperform standard stick construction. Does IB Panels ® have floor-plans? Not at this time. IB Panels ® mostly pre-cuts to custom order. We find that customers have a wide variety of tastes in homes. We have built panels for simple to very exotic homes. We welcome the opportunity to review your plans. Can panels meet hurricane & seismic code requirements? Yes. Panels have been put through extensive racking tests. The testing went extremely well compared to standard framing. This racking test caters to hurricane & earthquake simulation. Does a house built with panels cost more than standard frame-built homes? This depends on the floor plans. We have found that some home plans are less, some are a little more. How do I find a contractor that will build with panels? Panels are very easily adapted to standard construction. Most carpenters are willing to use panels as long as customers are asking for them. What kind of foam do you use? Expanded polystyrene, which contains no cfc's or formaldehyde, and does not give off any gases. How long have panels been around? Since 1950's, when the first home was built using panels. This home is still standing and occupied. The cost was the main reason for the unpopularity. But now, with the price of lumber, and the future availability of lumber, the use of panels is very "forest friendly." Are there any special requirements for the foundation? No, but as with any construction, the better the foundation, the easier the project. Do you pre-measure & pre-cut for doorways and windows? Yes. With our patented design, we pre-cut all doors & windows at no extra charge. What is the best way to do the plumbing on a house with panels? On the interior is best, since doing plumbing lines on the outside would break up the thermal barrier. If necessary, it is very easy to do the plumbing on the exterior. Should I install some kind of an air exchange / de-humidifier system with a panel house? Yes. IB Panels ® create a very tight envelope. Bringing in fresh air through an air-exchanger is better than a non-controlled (as through stud in standard framing), which creates heat loss. Tell me more about how you deliver these panels, as well as, the costs involved. Panels are delivered by common carrier, or by IB Panels ®, on a flat-bed trailer. Panels are bound in units and are very compact, and do not take up a lot of load space. Costs involved are approximately $2.00 per loaded mile. The customer is responsible for letting us know if large trucks can access the job site or not. Also it is the responsibility of the customer to unload the truck. A forklift or a crew of four able individuals would be adequate for unloading. Is this a modular home? No. Our panels are customized to fit each individual house plan, from very simple to very complex homes. What is the official name of this product? Due to the increasing popularity of this type of product, it has welcomed new nicknames in the industry. Stressed Skin Insulating core, Foam-Core Panels, Structural Insulated Panels, etc. The official name for this type of product is Stressed Skin Insulating Core. That became too difficult to use, and wasn't marketing compatible. It all basically means the same thing. What are the outside measurements of your panel thickness? How thick of OSB do you use? We use 7/16" Oriented Strand Board (OSB) on all panels. Are ants and termites a problem in panels? No more than in conventional construction. In climates where either termites or ants can cause problems, panel manufacturers recommend that all homeowners use the same preventive treatments (topical sprays around foundations, termite shields, etc.) they would use in a stick framed home. Preventive measures at the time of construction will aid in preventing infestation. Check with officials in your area. Expanded polystyrene (EPS) is non-intrusive to insects. Is underlayment required between the panel floor system and the flooring materials? We recommend that you check with the manufacturer of the flooring materials to see if underlayment on top of 7/16" OSB is necessary for product installation. Underlayment requirements vary from various flooring material manufacturers. My panels got wet. Will moisture be an issue? We recommend that you keep your panels as dry as possible. OSB is considered "Exposure 1" rated material. EXPOSURE 1 OSB are made to withstand repeated rainfall with little or no damage during a normal time frame construction project. To prevent rot and loss of strength, they must be allowed to dry and then have permanent protection from moisture. ![]() |
